SMA Grassroots Movement ("SMA", "we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting the privacy of our members, coordinators, and website visitors. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and the rights you have over it. It is written to comply with the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) and the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.

1. Information We Collect

When you register as a member or are added to the platform, we collect:

  • Identity details: surname, first name, middle name, gender, date of birth
  • Contact details: phone number, email address, home address
  • Background information: occupation
  • Location/jurisdiction: division, local government area (LGA/LCDA), and ward
  • Civic status: voter's card status and number (or reason if not registered), and APC party membership status and number (or reason if not a member)
  • Financial details (approved members only): bank name and account number, used solely for processing event stipends/reward payments
  • Photograph: a passport photograph, where supplied
  • Event participation: attendance records and check-in data for events you attend
  • Account data: login credentials and activity on the platform

2. Why We Collect It

We use your personal data only for legitimate movement operations, specifically to:

  • Verify and process your membership application and jurisdiction (division/LGA/ward)
  • Maintain an accurate register of members and coordinators
  • Record and manage attendance at meetings, rallies, trainings, and other events
  • Process stipend or reward disbursements to members who attend events, where applicable
  • Communicate updates, notices, and credentials relevant to your membership
  • Produce anonymized, aggregate statistics for planning and reporting purposes

3. Who Can See Your Data

Access to your personal data is restricted within the platform to authorized administrators, finance officers (bank details only, for the purpose of processing payments), and the coordinators whose division, LGA, or ward you belong to. We do not sell your personal data to third parties. Data may be disclosed if required by law or a valid court order.

4. How We Protect Your Data

We apply reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect your data, including access controls tied to staff roles and jurisdiction, encrypted password storage, and restricted administrative access. Only approved, vetted members have bank details recorded, and every payment made against those details is logged for audit purposes.

5. How Long We Keep It

We retain your personal data for as long as you remain a member of SMA Grassroots Movement and for a reasonable period afterward to meet record-keeping, audit, and legal obligations. You may request deletion of your data at any time, subject to Section 6 below.

6. Your Rights

Under the NDPR, you have the right to:

  • Know what personal data we hold about you and how it is used
  • Request a copy of your personal data
  • Request correction of inaccurate or outdated data
  • Request deletion of your data, where retention is not otherwise required by law
  • Withdraw your consent, understanding this may affect your ability to remain an active member

By ticking the consent box during registration, you confirm that you have read this Privacy Policy and agree to SMA Grassroots Movement collecting and processing your personal data as described above. Registration cannot proceed without this consent.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
